Postal Service Honors National Anthem with New Stamp
WASHINGTON — The U.S. Postal Service unveiled the Star-Spangled Banner Forever Stamp in a ceremony at the National Museum of American History, the home of the historic flag that inspired the anthem.
“We’re here today to honor our country’s most powerful symbols, our flag and our national anthem.”
— Kristin Seaver, USPS Vice President
Seaver recounted the story of Francis Scott Key, who was inspired to write the poem that became the national anthem upon seeing the flag flying over Fort McHenry after the Battle of Baltimore.
“It’s impossible to look at this image and not feel proud and patriotic… It’s a powerful symbol of our history, our heritage and the common ground we all share.”
